This project took place over three semesters and included one semester of research, one semester of design and a final semester of construction documents and presentation building. This design solution is a mixed-use urban infill project in the heart of Post-Katrina New Orleans. The building is made up of a ground floor restaurant & bar and market & cafe with condominiums on the remaining 4 floors .
MIXED-USE DESIGN

When the residents first get out of the elevator, on floor 2, they are greeted by a staff member at the Lobby desk. This provides the opportunity to make any maintenance requests or to book the small lounge or meeting space.

The middle wall between buildings provided a design challenge that was solved by the incorporating a central atrium core connecting each of the floors. This focus on the intersecting architecture is influenced by the exposed structure found within the transport ships.

Branding, lighting, traffic flow, versatility, acoustics, and atmosphere were all elements explored during the creative process. The seating in the restaurant is versatile and can easily be relocated to accommodate larger parties or create furniture layouts for special events.

This view of the bar space illustrates the incorporation of vertical beams and archways that are reminiscent of the structure found in the lower deck of the transport ship.

This restaurant is a space for casual socialization with seating and standing areas. Overall seating flexibility lends itself to a dining experience that provides many options for the patrons, thus aiding in customer satisfaction.

The materials and finishes used in the design solution are inspired by the transport ship and transport of whiskey. Warm wood tones are contrasted by smooth dark surfaces. Each material is individually unique and yet they exist harmoniously with each other.
