Sophomore Year
The residential portion of my portfolio consists of several different projects that took place in Studio I, Studio II and Graphic Techniques II. Although the emphasis for each of these projects were different, they illustrate the beginning exploration into residential design. The square footage ranges from 400sqft to around 2,000sqft. These projects helped me to better understand space planning during the early years of my design education.
RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

This model was created in Studio I. The concept for the SRO (Single Residence Occupancy) was derived from the lotus flower and lily pads. The upper floor is reminiscent of a lily pad that floats above the lower functional area.

This design was created in Studio I and later used as a graphic exercise in Graphic Techniques II. This image was part of an initial exploration into hand-rendering techniques. The curvilinear nature of the lily pad provided direct design influence in the shape and space planning of the overall residence.

The penthouse was inspired by the notion of mountain top views and the elements and principles derived from a mountain stream

This project was completed during Studio II. Natural elements of stone and wood were incorporated throughout the space. The flow of the space can be seen as a direct inspiration of the winding stream.

“Man-Cave” Add-on: This is the proposed design for an addition onto the house by closing in the back patio. The client wanted a “man-cave” where he and his friends can play cards, drink, watch the game, hang out comfortably and enjoy themselves in luxury. This space is both functional and comfortable and showcases a custom stained glass entertainment unit.

Kitchen Re-Design: This kitchen was designed with the express need of optimize cooking capabilities for this chef. His original kitchen did not meet his needs and it was my intention to allow him to host parties and have plenty of room. The cool colors were offset by the warm tones in the flooring and an accompanying sitting area.
